How we decide what belongs.
Swurl is a Christian-led link-shortening service, intended for useful websites, online files and resources.
Automated screening
We use locally held copies of OISD Big and NSFW, scheduled for weekly updates. These are domain blocklists, not an assessment of the content on every page. Coverage varies by list and changes over time. OISD NSFW covers adult, pornographic and shock domains; Big covers a range of unwanted and harmful domains.
We check submitted destinations and immediate HTTP redirects. Checks do not execute a page’s JavaScript, inspect downloaded files or guarantee what a visitor sees later. An unlisted site may still be harmful. No link-shortening service can promise complete safety.
Our standards
- Malware, phishing, fraud and attempts to steal information.
- Child sexual abuse material, sexual exploitation and other unlawful harmful content.
- Pornography and graphic shock content.
- Content whose main purpose is to promote witchcraft or occult practice.
- Abusive use of swurl, deceptive links and attempts to evade screening.
Educational discussion, criticism and Christian guidance about a subject are reviewed in context. Christian content decisions rely on reports and human review; automated domain lists do not make theological judgements.
Rules, reports and appeals
A reviewed exception takes priority over a manual block or an OISD entry for the matching destination. A redirect to another destination is checked separately. We can disable links and suspend accounts. Flagged links show an explanation page instead of redirecting.
Use the report form to flag a concern or explain an appeal. A moderator records the decision. An exception does not guarantee that the site will always remain suitable.
Using the service
You are responsible for the links you create and sharing them lawfully. Do not use swurl to conceal harmful destinations or send unsolicited bulk messages. Deleted short codes are never reassigned. Availability and uninterrupted operation cannot be guaranteed.
